Today, life for university students has become far more difficult. Factors such as soaring tuition fees, scholarships in the form of loans and exploitative part-time jobs are making it harder and harder for the average student to make ends meet.

We believe that universities should play a role in fighting inequality. However, in recent years, the conditions for students have become so tough that it increasingly appears that only individuals from wealthy families can afford the privilege of higher education.

Yoshida Dormitory plays a vital role in combating this growing inequality. Our dorm charges very low rent and therefore acts as a safety net for less affluent students so that they too can be able to attend Kyoto University.
