What is the problem with the Basic Policy?

The purpose of the Basic Policy is to force all Yoshida students to leave the dormitory. The university authorities justify this with the claim that Yoshida Dormitory is structurally unsound and therefore not fit for students to live in. We agree that the dormitory has serious structural issues and have been speaking to the university for a number of years, requesting that they refurbish the old section of our dorm to make it safer. However, the university has never taken any steps to repair our dorm and they are now attempting to force us to leave. If the Basic Policy is carried out, Yoshida Dormitory will cease to exist and its communal spirit and the benefits it provides to students will disappear with it.

What is the university’s ‘Basic Policy’?
