List of residents of the new section of Yoshida Dormitory

On March 22nd 2018, the Yoshida Dormitory Committee submitted a register of the names of the dormitory’s residents for the month of March. This register included the names of those living in the new section of the dorm.

The university’s “Basic Policy for the Protection of Yoshida Dormitory Students” states that all students must vacate Yoshida Dormitory because it is structurally unsound. However, the Basic Policy refers to not only students in the old section of the dorm, but also those in the new section. Given the fact that the new section does not suffer from any structural issues, we see no reason why residents from this section are being forced to leave. On this point, Vice President Kawazoe stated as follows:

“Unfortunately, it is not possible for the university to determine which Yoshida Dormitory students are living in the new section of the dorm and which are living in the old section. Therefore, although the new section meets building standards, it is necessary for all students to vacate both buildings”

(Taken from “Basic Policy for the Protection of Yoshida Dormitory Students: Planning and Implementation”)

In fact, the Yoshida Dormitory Committee keeps a detailed record of which of our residents are living in the old building and which are in the new building. We simply do not indicate this in the monthly list of names we submit to the university because they have never requested this information. We have already made it clear to the university that we are happy to provide them with a list of the residents of the new building. We therefore see no reason why the students living in this section of our dorm are being forced to leave.
